Frequently Asked Questions
How often should I bring my pet in for grooming?
That always depends on you and your pet. The type of cut that you want, and how much time you can dedicate to maintaining your pets’ coat at home. Your groomer can discuss your needs and suggest a personalized maintenance program.
When should I start bringing my puppy or kitten to a groomer?
We highly recommend bringing your puppy or kitten in for a short grooming session at around 12 weeks. We offer packages for kittens and puppies that are specifically designed to introduce your pet to grooming in a calm and positive environment.
Should I walk my dog before taking them to the groomer?
Dogs will not be let out to relieve themselves during their appointment. We recommend taking your dog out before grooming to ensure your dog is comfortable during the groom.
Does Shirley's groom giant dog breeds?
Yes, we have specialized equipment designed specifically for giant dog breeds such as Newfoundland Dogs, St. Bernards, Great Dane’s, etc..
However, in order to achieve the highest quality service for your giant dog, we kindly ask if said dog can be booked for an appointment as early in the day as possible, to allow sufficient time for the groomer to complete the groom. These dogs are labour intensive, and require a minimum of 1 hour for a bath, as well as a few hours to dry and groom.
My pet has allergies/sensitive skin/needs special attention. Can Shirley's provide specialized grooms for these pets?
Yes, we can. Please advise your groomer beforehand of any allergies or special attention that your pet may need special assistance with. We offer hypoallergenic shampoos, medicated shampoos, and many other sensitive skin shampoos that can be applied to the coat of your pet.
Can I stay with my pet during their groom?
Unfortunately at this time, we cannot allow pet parents to stay with their pets during grooming. Since it usually makes your pet more anxious, it’s best when they can’t see or smell you – they will get easily distracted and frustrated if they cannot get to you. For the safety and health of your pet, your groomer needs the pets’ full attention.
My pet isn't spayed or neutered, can I still have them groomed?
We don’t require your pet to be spayed or neutered, however we do ask that you inform the groomer before making your appointment. We also ask to refrain from booking a grooming appointment for your pet if they are in heat, as they are more sensitive at this time and other male dogs/cats may act irritable.
